The Inside Environment – Reflections on the ‘Formula Course’
Members who joined the movement back in those days usually got first involved in fundraising and witnessing activities. There was a ‘formula course’ that every member should go through – ideally before the blessing. It consisted of 3.5 years of fundraising and 3.5 years of witnessing activities.
MFT (Mobile Fundraising Team) – the upside
All new members should start his/her career in the movement in a fundraising team. Fundraising is a very simple activity, requiring few – if any – skills. The schedule is tough but simple. This helps to focus on internal aspects.
The development of a relationship to God and to begin understanding spiritual laws, team work, team unity, commitment, goal setting etc. should be the main priority during this time. All this is practiced in a simple environment.
The schedule in a full-time fundraising team is demanding and simple. Food is okay, if not better, but apart from that life is hard. There is little if any private time. All members are expected to lead a radically ‘public’ life. They must commit to and take responsibility for each other. The tight schedule requires that the daily routines are handled efficiently. On the medium and long term people really learn to work as a team and develop long lasting relationships.
I know many people who remember their fundraising time as a difficult but good and even happy time, exactly because of the internal experiences and the bonds of friendship that often last a lifetime.
It may be similar to people with military experience.
