More Reflections on the ‘Formula Course’
MFT and all – the downside
But in reality there are a few serious downsides.
Inside and outside an MFT (Mobile Fundraising Team) the range of activities was everything but wide. Witnessing centers did one thing, talking to strangers on the street and invite them to the center to learn about the teaching. Occasionally witnessing members also do fundraising – on weekends for example.
Everywhere the simplicity is obvious and little skill or creativity is required. A leader thus might find it sufficient to just drive the members along the daily schedule, correcting people that get out of line or who don’t do their assigned duties etc. Coercive means are often sufficient for this task.
For the sake of motivation a leader might stress the Cain-Abel ‘principle’ and take the position that if all members (Cain) truly unite with the leader (Abel), success will come. By following the leader ‘unconditionally’ - not asking too many questions and not giving unsolicited advice - the separation from Satan will occur and the spiritual world will come to support.
All this leads to an inward looking culture that urges the participants to focus on their ability to follow, trying to root out internal problems that stand in the way. The external solution is left to the higher ups who hand down the instructions. Results are up to the good spirit world, which will deliver them as soon as the members have fulfilled their responsibility ( by following the leader ).
